Tops and Flops of the Football Weekend in Île-de-France

par Johann Macq

The TOPS of the Weekend in Île-de-France

✅ Red Star FC answer the call

A reaction was needed. After last week’s heavy 3–0 defeat in Pau, Red Star FC had to bounce back at Stade Bauer against AS Nancy-Lorraine. Mission accomplished, even if the overall performance was not flawless.

The Audoniens opened the scoring from the penalty spot through Escartin (26’), before the same player unfortunately turned the ball into his own net (53’). A cruel twist that could have shaken the team’s confidence. But in a tense finale, Khaoui struck in the 84th minute, capitalising on a scramble inside the Nancy penalty area to send Bauer into celebration.

Beyond the performance itself, this victory is crucial in the Ligue 2 promotion race. Red Star take advantage of slip-ups by Le Mans FC (defeat) and Stade de Reims (draw) to close in on second place. In this final sprint, efficiency is all that matters.

✅ Racing Club de France Football in control, Paris 13 Atletico hold firm

Leaders of Group D in the Championnat National 3, Racing Club de France Football continue their impressive consistency. One week after a dramatic last-gasp win against fellow promotion contenders FCM Aubervilliers, Racing once again secured the essentials.

A short trip to Versailles to face the reserve side ended in a narrow 1–0 victory and three more valuable points. However, the second half was largely dominated by the hosts, who failed to break down a solid and disciplined Parisian defence.

Racing extend their lead at the top of the table, taking advantage of Aubervilliers’ draw. Only ESA Linas-Montlhéry, winners of the Essonne derby against CS Brétigny Football (2–1), remain within four points and still capable of challenging their leadership.

In the Championnat National, Paris 13 Atletico pulled off an excellent result by earning a valuable 1–1 draw away at promotion hopefuls FC Sochaux-Montbéliard.

Solid, organised and opportunistic, the Parisians showed they have the resources to fight for survival. It is through performances like these that the club will secure its place at this demanding level.

The FLOPS of the Weekend

Paris Saint-Germain stumble in Rennes

A setback for Paris Saint-Germain, who were beaten 3–1 away at Stade Rennais FC. A costly defeat, as the Parisians surrender their place at the top of the table.

This season, PSG have alternated between brilliance and inconsistency. Ousmane Dembélé’s headed goal in the 71st minute was the only bright spark on a night largely controlled by the Breton side. In a fiercely competitive Ligue 1 campaign, RC Lens are dropping very few points. Paris will need greater consistency if they hope to retain their title.

Paris FC humiliated

The heaviest blow of the weekend goes to Paris FC. At the Stade Jean Bouin, the Parisians collapsed in a crushing 5–0 defeat against RC Lens.

Beyond the scoreline, it is the sense of fragility that raises concern. Paris FC had the opportunity to slow Lens down and indirectly help their Parisian neighbours — but failed to do so. In the Ligue 1 standings, the gap to the first relegation side, AJ Auxerre, is now just five points. A response is needed — and quickly.
